Happy Sunday from the DR!!
We’re already feeling grateful for the Lord’s providence in bringing us to this place at this time. We began our day with breakfast at 7:30 before heading out to El Peñón for church. What a delight it was to worship alongside the community of El Peñón, and what a privilege it was for our faith to be encouraged by witnessing theirs. Afterwards, we all spoke of the beauty in gathering together to praise the Lord. It was fun to recognize some of the songs as we joined in. The pastor of the church invited up members from our team to share:
– Dr. Grant reminded us that we are God’s beloved.
– Christina shared Isaiah 41:10- So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
– Dr. Bob shared Romans 8:28- And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.
When we returned, we ate lunch before beginning clinic training and prepping for the next several days. We unpacked suitcases, counted meds, and took inventory of supplies. Dr. Bob gave a brief training of what to expect in clinic everyday and reminded us that our greatest need, and that of those we will serve this week, is spiritual above all else. The night ended with a time of fellowship, worship, and reflection from the day, as we sang How Great is Our God. We also gathered in small groups to share stories, expectations, and prayers for what this week will hold, as we seek to faithfully serve those we are graced to encounter.
Grace and Peace to you,
Camden, Ashley, and The Team
