At Christian Medical Ministry of Alabama, we recognize the immense pressures that come with pursuing a career in healthcare. From burnout and stress to personal crises, we've seen firsthand the challenges that students and professionals face. That's why we're here—to provide a supportive community that addresses your needs, both spiritually and emotionally. Whether you're a student or resident just starting out or starting out in your chosen healthcare field.
From students to residents, we provide mentorship and discipleship to help you navigate through your healthcare profession school and residency.
We believe in treating the whole person—addressing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs to promote overall well-being.
Our ministry is built on the foundation of Christian values, offering activities where healthcare students and residents can integrate Christian faith with professional vocation while connecting with other Christian Healthcare students and residents in community.
Christian Medical Ministry of Alabama (CMMA) was born in 1982 by Earle and Judy Carpenter, along with local physicians and dentists that recognized a troubling trend—burnout, divorce, addiction, and even suicide among their professional peers. Realizing that many of these issues started during the demanding years of medical training, they set out to create a ministry focused on medical students.
What began with a focus on medical students quickly expanded to include dental, optometry, physical and occupational therapy students, and residents. From the start, our mission has been clear: to offer ministry activities through Christian community that healthcare students and residents may thrive.
Our story is one of compassion, faith, and commitment. We've seen lives transformed, marriages strengthened, and careers flourish. As we look to the future, our goal remains the same—to support healthcare students and residents through every stage of their journey, equipping them to serve others with Christ's love and wisdom.
CMMA began and continues to be a Board Directed ministry of Briarwood Presbyterian Church (PCA)
