Day two of clinic was such a blessing! Today we traveled to [IDK WHERE WE WERE] and saw so many sweet members of their community. We provided a wide variety of care to people ranging from 6 months old to 80 years.

Here are some highlights from our day within the clinic:

  • A young male came in with lifelong asthma. After speaking to the physician, the team decided to use a nebulizer. The boy was apprehensive, but the students were able to calm and encourage him as he inhaled the treatment. Once it was complete, he ran outside to play with the kids. One of the students recounted the story to us saying that he watched the boy run around blowing on the other kids, even blowing a kiss into the students’ hand. He was eager to use his new and rejuvenated breathing ability!
  • There was also an 8-month-old little girl who came in with a mass on her forehead and we were able to do a bedside ultrasound to help give her mom more information about what was potentially causing the mass. Due to the limitations of our clinic, we were unable to make a diagnosis, but encouraged the mother to see a specialist. Despite the medical limitations, we were able to pray over the mother and her daughter and were reminded of our trust and reassurance that the Lord if sovereign and He will bring healing in His timing.
  • One lady we had the privilege of treating spoke only Creole, making communication slow and difficult. Thus, the encounter was tedious and frustrating at times. However, after we were able to understand some of her diagnoses and give her the proper medicines, we had the opportunity to share with her our hearts behind the trip and clinic. We explained that even though we were from different countries that we were still her brothers and sisters in Christ. Hearing this prompted her to share some of her story with us; she told us that after her husband passed years ago, members of her church had rallied around her to care for her. She painted such a clear and beautiful picture of the body of Christ. Then, she declared that a brother in Christ is so much stronger than a brother by blood.

This week we have had the gift of witnessing how followers of Christ from three different medical schools and so many different backgrounds can come together and quickly form meaningful relationships. The Lord has purposefully equipped each of us with our own strengths, so that we have been able to come together to serve and reach people in a way we never could have on our own. We hope to continue showing God’s love to the people here in the Dominican and appreciate your continued prayers and support.
