Today was such a successful day! We traveled about an hour away from our host facility, SCORE, and partnered with a local church in the village of El Sabio. We arrived to many people awaiting us on the porch and quickly assembled a clinic, pharmacy, and spiritual health tent.
At each of the medical stations, we provided healthcare ranging from blood pressure control, to gastric reflux, and even musculoskeletal pain. Students partnered with physicians as they led patient interactions, practicing their newly learned doctor skills! After obtaining a history and examining the patients, our physicians guided our students on how to treat the problem and pray for God to heal them through His power and the medicine we brought. We provided treatment to over 100 people!
Outside of the clinic, children played soccer with students while parents who had already received care sat with other students and leaders to talk about Jesus. Many people who came today were members of the church and rejoiced with us in God’s ability to provide healthcare for them and bringing healing to their bodies. We joined them in praying for their families and their community. Among these spiritual conversations, there was one woman who had been attending the church, but was not yet committed to following Jesus. After speaking with our team, she declared that she was ready to make the Lord leader of her life and professed Jesus as her Savior! We prayed with her and connected her to the pastor of the church to continue growing in her faith.
After returning home from the clinic, students showered, ate dinner, got AMAZING dessert at a local SCORE ministry, and then attended a group worship night. Many conversations have been stirring among the students about what we have learned today. It’s been evident that God loves the poor and the fatherless, and we feel blessed to have seen the way His people rely on Him to provide. Please continue to pray that we would learn from the community and be eager to serve in whatever capacity God has for our group. Pray also that as students early in our training, we would cultivate a love for serving Him that would be sustained throughout our career in medicine.
