Today was our last day of clinic and we went back to El Peñon, where we went to church on Sunday. This clinic was a bit different because CMMA is working on establishing a longitudinal clinic there. We had charts today and got to see patients who’ve been seen by other CMMA groups in the past. Today was our longest clinic and yet lowest patient volume. It was an interesting contrast from the past few days and yet encouraging to see patients who were improving since the last clinic in June. Some wins from today:
Even with the lingering storm, we were able to have a full day of clinic.
In June, the team saw a woman who learned she was pregnant at clinic. At the time, she wasn’t excited about the pregnancy as she had a 1 year old and was considering terminating the pregnancy. The team prayed over her and encouraged her. Today, we got to give her an ultrasound and show her baby. We learned that it’s a girl and she already has a name picked out. She’s due in December.
One student shared the gospel for the first time today and the patient received Christ.
We saw a patient who seemed very distant at the start of the visit. However, by the end, she said, ‘I want to accept Christ today.’ The team prayed over her and she became a Christian.
We saw a woman who had lost her baby seventeen days ago, at 6 months pregnant, and were able to pray over her as she grieves.
There was a patient with uncontrolled hypertension who got medications for the next four months and was connected with the pastor of the church. He will be seen at the next clinic.
We cared for the daughter of the church’s pastor who recently came to Christ. It was an encouragement to pray over her and her impact on the next generation of the church. She said the joy of Christ was on display amongst our team and the clinic’s atmosphere.
Tomorrow is our last day. Because of the weather, our plans are up in the air but we’re excited to have one more day in the DR together!
