I realize that is not the most descriptive title, however, that is all I can say when I think about all that God is doing! This year's incoming classes have a large number of Christian students who want to impact their communities for Christ. All of our meetings, Medical Couples, Medical Singles, TNT, and P&P, have had larger than expected turn outs! Praise God! And we have had a number of people volunteer to lead our small group Bible studies, for our -- also larger than expected -- new students interested in small groups. Bobby is busy trying to get these groups coordinated this week. Pray for these groups as they get established for group cohesiveness that they might be able to establish some long term discipleship/accountability/fellowship.
We could not do our ministry without volunteers, and we are SO THANKFUL for all who help us out! Now with the increased numbers of participants, we need even more volunteers. We could use people in a variety of roles. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Bobby who would be happy to fit in your skills and time into our needs. Since our last post, we have had several busy weeks. Our Dental Welcome Dinner was attended by over 40 first year students. It seems to be a wonderful bunch of students who are enthusiastic about being involved in the ministry. Several of the upper class dental students helped with a panel discussion a week later for a DENTAL ONLY P & P on the topic, "What I would do differently as a D1." This also was well attended. The dental group has several small group Bible studies which have already begun. (If you would like to be involved, it's not too late, please contact Norm Patterson.) The Dental Group also had their first monthly Fellowship meeting at the home of Dr. Stephen & Dr. Shannon Thomas. We are so thankful for Dr. Norm & Sue Patterson who are directing this ministry.
The Medical Welcome Dinner was this past week. We had over 60 new medical students attend. Today we participated in UAB's Activities Fair for Dental and Medical students, so we were able to make connections with several more students who had not been able to attend the dinner. Medical group meetings begin next week -- Couples on Monday, August 13 and Singles on Tuesday, August 14. Our first P & P meeting will be on Wednesday, August 22. Thanks to everyone for their prayers for Earle Carpenter who suffered a heart attack in July. He is recovering and cannot wait to be allowed to get back to work. |
